Tullie House is one of the finest museums in the North West and has collections covering archaeology, social history, natural science and fine and decorative art. Our award-winning schools programme attracts over 12,000 pupils a year and is focussed on our inspirational galleries and collections. We have something to offer pupils from all ages and stages, including facilitated workshops, outreach and self-guided visits.

A full day exploration of Ancient Egypt, featuring a visit from Inesti, an Egyptian Farmer’s Wife, object handling and a craft activity.

In this fascinating day exploring Chinese culture, your pupils will have an introduction to Mandarin and Chinese customs, explore our stunning China exhibition with historical objects never seen before in the UK, and take part in a hands on session with a special guest.

Meet a real Viking, visit our ‘Vikings Revealed’ gallery which displays the exciting finds from the Viking Cemetery at Cumwhitton, and take

Visit our exhibition exploring the amazing River Eden, take part in a guided session with Tullie House staff and then head to the river itself

Natural England & Tullie House have teamed up to deliver interactive assemblies looking at habitats like woodlands, peat bogs and hay
meadows. Assemblies include objects from the museum collection along with elements of drama and dressing up.

Would you like Florence to pay your class a visit? This interactive session will be led by two Tullie House members of staff (one in costume!) who will help pupils explore Florence’s life and work through objects.

This one hour session explores WWI and remembrance using objects and costume, and focusses on the story of Poppy and her brother

Ahead of the opening of our summer exhibition in partnership with Eden Rivers Trust, Tullie House staff will give your pupils an introduction to the amazing River Eden in an interactive assembly.

Finglandrigg Wood Nature Reserve
18th – 22nd June 2018
Natural England staff will lead a day of activities inspired by the reserve and neighbouring farm. Your class will take part in three workshops looking at farming, bugs & beasties and biodiversity.

When you start a new topic, why not have Tullie House introduce the subject and get your class excited and engaged in one of our free interactive assemblies delivered in school? Topics available are Romans, Vikings, Border Reivers and NEW for 2017/18, the Anglo-Saxons.
We have a comprehensive Loan Service covering most of the subjects that you can study at Tullie House (history, science, art) as well as a range of stuffed birds and animals. Loans come in sturdy boxes and are carefully packed to preserve the objects during transport. You can find a list of available loans on our website. Loan Boxes are FREE to User Group schools or £40 per half term for non User Group schools.
FAMILIARISATION & SELF-GUIDED VISITS
Teachers are welcome to visit the museum for a FREE familiarisation visit – please let Sarah know if you would like to take this up. We welcome visits from pupils of all ages and stages to our award-winning galleries. We have developed resources to help teachers plan their visits, as well as new trails around the galleries for pupils. General visits by schools are FREE and can be booked at a time to suit you.
