Learning Sessions

ASSISTANT ARCHAEOLOGIST... UNCOVERING PREHISTORIC CUMBRIA

Year groups 3-6 – max 45 students; 3 groups each with a responsible supervisor.

Session 1: Handling & learning about Neolithic Axes and other tools.

Session 2: Thinking like a stone-age survivor – 101 uses for a dead…?

Session 3: Uncovering a Bronze Age site -uncover replica domestic objects from a bronze age round house site to get a sense of how Prehistoric people lived.

CUMBRIAN ROCKS & FOSSILS... START TO EXPLORE WHAT IS UNDER YOUR FEET!

KS2 – Year groups 3-6; max 30 students; 2 groups.

Session 1: Handle, magnify and sort five very different types f rock and find out where they can be found in Cumbria (covering sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks).

Session 2: Explore four different types of animals and plants which are found fossilised in Cumbria… and see some of our special fossils!

Session 3: Make your own fossil trilobite to take home.

VICTORIAN CUMBRIAN CHARACTERS

KS2 – Year groups 3-6; max 30 students; 2 groups.

Make our painting of Main Street 1870 come to life and find out how people lived 150 years ago!

Session 1: Research census records, maps and photographs and reminiscence to build up a picture of your character’s life.

Session 2: Handle a selection of mystery objects to begin to understand something of the daily lives of the Victorians.

Session 3: Create a short drama in pairs reflecting about your character and their lives.

TAKE OVER AT THE MUSEUM!

KS1/2 – Max 45 students; 3 groups each with a responsible supervisor; 3 rotating activities in 2 hours – one self-led with clear instructions.
Apply numeracy and literacy skills and your imagination to help us run
the museum; Choose from: Museum stock check and product development; Giving a museum tour; Creating a mini exhibition;
Planning holiday activities.
